The Vermont Humanities Council is bringing the fabulous speaker and author Dana Walrath to ArtsRiot for a fascinating talk!
From the Vermont Humanities Council description:
Dementia. Genocide. Mental Illness. Writer, artist, and anthropologist Dana Walrath focuses on these subjects in her creative works. She brings hope, insight, and even laughter into the most unexpected places. In this free Ideas on Tap talk, Walrath will blend examples from her books, Like Water on Stone and Aliceheimer’s, with her recent art installations, and show how creative writing and art can be healing for all of us.
VHC’s Ideas on Tap series is designed to convene informal, informative, and provocative conversations, and to strengthen them with a scholar’s expertise. These events are held in partnership with the University of Vermont’s Humanities Center, held at the ArtsRiot restaurant, bar and performing space in Burlington.
The Flying Pig will be bringing all of Dana's books to the event, including her brand-new picture book, I Am a Bird. All books will be available for purchase and signing, and a portion of the proceeds will benefit the International Children's Rescue Fund. (Please note: this is an adult event, so don't bring the kids to this one! We will host Dana for a story time celebration this summer, so check back for a date and time on that one.)
